Omari Wilson, Zumba Instructor

Omari Wilson

Omari M. Wilson is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Land Loss Prevention Project, a nonprofit public interest law firm in Durham, NC, whose mission is to provide legal assistance to limited resource farmers and landowners seeking to preserve their homes, farms, land, and livelihood. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Audubon North Carolina and on the Leadership Team of NC Climate Justice Collective. Omari earned his law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus, OH, and he’s also an alumnus of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a degree in General Psychology.

The practice of law can be quite stressful at times, so Omari accepted an invitation to attend a Zumba class in 2011, and he hasn’t looked back since. After dancing for years with several spirited and gifted Zumba instructors, he decided to join the ZIN family. Omari received his Zumba license from ZES Loretta Bates in July 2018. He has taught classes in Saxapahaw, NC with his twin brother Ayo Wilson, also a licensed Zumba instructor, as Gemelos Zumba, at Culture Mill, a nonprofit space that fosters artistic exchange and collaboration. And sometimes you might catch Gemelos Zumba in classes in Durham dancing with their fellow Zumba instructor and dance mentor Jessica Mazyck. Gemelos Zumba has also been engaged in climate and environmental justice work, appearing at the NC Climate Justice Summit at the Haw River State Park in March 2019 and at the EJ Leadership Forum coordinated by WE ACT for Environmental Justice in Houston, TX in June 2019.

The GAINS Fit 2020 Myrtle Beach Retreat will be Omari’s first retreat, and he is looking forward to joining Ayo to bring you more Gemelos Zumba, gaining new friendships, promoting fun fitness for all, and burning up that floor.
