Ayo Wilson

Ayo Wilson serves as Administrative Co-Director of NC Environmental Justice Network, a grassroots, people of color-led coalition of community organizations and their supporters who work with low income communities and people of color on issues of climate, environmental, racial, and social injustice. He also serves on the Board of Directors of NC WARN and Haw River Assembly and on the Leadership Team of NC Climate Justice Collective. He received his B.S. in Communications/Elec. Media from Appalachian State and a Master of Public Administration, cum laude from NC Central University. After consistent invitations to attend Zumba classes from his brother Omari, Ayo started regularly started applying fire to the floor in 2016.

In Nov. 2018, Ayo decided to join the ZIN family, along with ZIN Lisa Lundy and ZIN Cristin Parrish, under the direction of ZES Loretta Bates. He’s taught classes in Saxapahaw, NC as Gemelos Zumba with his brother ZIN Omari Wilson at Culture Mill, a nonprofit space that fosters artistic exchange and collaboration. You can also catch Gemelos Zumba burning up the floor in Durham, NC with fellow Zumba instructor and dance mentor Jessica Mazyck. Gemelos Zumba has also been engaged in climate and environmental justice work, appearing at the NC Climate Justice Summit at Haw River State Park in March 2019 and at the EJ Leadership Forum coordinated by WE ACT for Environmental Justice in Houston, TX in June 2019.

The GAINS Fit 2020 Retreat will be Ayo’s first time with GAINS Fit, and along with Omari, is focused on forging friendships and ZIN family bonds, promoting happiness and health through collective movement, and slapping some fire on that dance floor! Let’s go!
