Mertriss Chapel, originally from Chicago, IL, and raised in San Diego, CA, now lives in Washington with her husband and three children. With more than 15 years of experience in dance fitness, she brings passion, energy, and community to every class she leads. She is licensed and certified in Zumba, COMMIT Dance Fitness, and COMMIT Sculpt.
Within COMMIT Dance Fitness, Mertriss serves as a Trainer, Choreographer, and Choreo Scene Presenter. She has choreographed several popular routines, including “One Wine,” “Remedy,” and “Snap Yo Fingers.” She is passionate about creating an inclusive, empowering space where participants of all fitness levels can build confidence and improve their physical and mental wellness.
Professionally, Mertriss is a full-time school social worker with Tacoma Public Schools. She has over a decade of experience supporting youth, families, and adults through advocacy, resource connection, and emotional support. Her work has included time with Washington State DCYF, supporting elementary students, and currently supporting young adults ages 16–21 at a local high school, helping re-engage students on their path to graduation.
Her personal motto is: “Aspire to Inspire.” In other words, be the change you would like to see in your community.
